in what consist this Expedition? |
This expedition consists of a guided boat tour inside the aquatic trails of the Tamarindo Wetland, a site of international importance by the Ramsar Convention, and monitoring the behavior and ecology of birds as well as the presence of the American crocodile.
Led by experienced guides with more than 15 years of experience, one of the aquatic trails of the wetland will be taken in which the different birds will be identified and counted and their behavior will be analyzed from a distance, to follow up on the resident and migratory species monitoring project. The aim is to raise awareness about the importance of wetland ecosystems, its mangroves and the abundant life that this site houses, in addition to its importance in mitigating the effects of climate change and its connection with the ocean. |
Why is this important? |
Globally, these ecosystems are considered of great importance to maintain natural dynamics and also provide environmental services that benefit populations. Wetlands help mitigate the impact of natural phenomena, are incubators for marine species and contribute to carbon fixation.
The Tamarindo Wetland is home to species with stable populations such as the American crocodile (Crocodylus acutus) and others threatened such as the yellow-crested parrot (Amazon auropalliata), the howler monkey (Alouatta palliata) and the endemic mangrove hummingbird (Amazilia boucardi). The latter is associated with the piñuelo mangrove (Pelliciera rhizophorae), one of the six species of mangrove present in the Las Baulas National Marine Park of Guanacaste. Promote knowledge about the life of these species and their role in nature facilitates raising people's awareness towards actions that mitigate or reduce some of their threats. To address an environmental crisis of pollution and destruction, it is necessary to bring closer the reality that species face and the opportunity to get to know them up close. It is hoped that attendees will participate in the analysis and discussion of possible solutions. |
Contribuimos al desarrollo sostenibleThis project seeks increase the economic benefits to small countries from the sustainable use of marine resources, including through sustainable management of tourism; as well as improve education, awareness-raising and human and institutional capacity on climate change mitigation, adaptation, impact reduction and early warning.
