PurposeThe world is facing a crucial moment if we want to keep many of the life we know on Earth. Many species are facing the extinction due to different global effects, in which human existence is one of the biggest factors. Even human life depends on the actions and habits that are currently being done.
Climate change and the climatic events, pollution, human interactions with its surroundings, ecosystem modifications and the intrusion of non-native species are all threats that are affecting a conservation area such as Las Baulas National Marine Park. This open class seeks to create an analysis plenary to discuss about sustainability, the UN Sustainable Development Goals, the activities that are done in the Tamarindo Bay, and what ideas comes up to see the possible ways to live in symbiosis with nature. ImportanceWe believe that changing the world into a better place it is possible. This activity is motivated by the need to impulse agents of change, people who can discern and take in consideration different points of view to take decisions. Ideally they will consider the importance of the environment in any of the disciplines in which they will develop.
Costa Rica’s North Pacific Coast is an important place for migratory species. The Tamarindo Bay and some of its beaches and estuaries are part of Las Baulas National Marine Park. This place protects one of the most important nesting spots for the critically endangered Tropical Eastern Pacific leatherback turtle (Dermochelys coriacea). The Tamarindo Bay is also more than turtles, there is a lot of species of flora and fauna that play a significant role to keep the ecological balance. The way we all live is fundamental for the survival of the leatherback turtle and to maintain healthy the different ecosystems in the surroundings such as the dry forest, the mangrove forest, the ocean and the coast. The ActivityPecho Amarillo is committed not only to promote agents of change, this project also works together with the National Park Environmental Education Program. The open class will take place in and in the surroundings of the protected area.
Also based on those related topics that the academy, institution or organization in request would like to make emphasis, the trip could be developed differently. This might include a formal speech and a field trip in the National Park, sea turtle sighting tours at night (during the nesting season), beach clean up, community engagement and others more. Let's be creative on how to live together with nature. |
